This action team supports progressive candidates for local school boards, and identifies candidates who represent anti-public school or culture wars ideology. We coordinate with other Indivisble groups in Washington to monitor campaigns that are detrimental to public schools or to students in certain vulnerable groups.

 

We believe every child should feel safe and welcome at school. We believe our public schools are the strength of our nation. Students in our Skagit communities deserve schools that are well-funded, well-staffed, follow state law, and respect the students, families, and staff in each district. We support diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and actively work to promote them and keep them in place.

 

IndiSkagit Public School Defenders has worked most closely with members of the community in Sedro-Woolley School District. We responded to a request from a group of community members that included many of our own members who live in the SWSD to help defend against an attempted takeover of the School Board by Moms4Liberty activists.

 

This community group organized to attend Board meetings, make public comments, write board members, recruit candidates, and assist campaigns for school board positions. In November 2025, all 4 of the candiates we supported won their races, re-establishing a “students first” focus on the Board.
