The Local Elections Team first organized in 2017 to evaluate, endorse,

and support candidates running for local seats at the city and county levels.

 

We vet endorsement requests, facilitate and train our members/supporters participation in canvassing, phone banking, yard

sign distribution, and GOTV efforts. Many of our endorsed candidates are

elected as the result of our support.

 

The Local Elections Team activates for specific activities

and campaigns as needed.

We would like to develop this action team into a standing team that can

build the capacity to track local races of interest to our members/supporters,

take responsibility for our endorsement process, and recruit candidates to

run in local races. We want to build our capacity to engage in year-round canvassing and other forms of voter contact.

Candidate Endorsement Process

 

Any candidate aligned with progressive values may request endorsement from Indivisible Skagit. In addition, any member may request endorsement for a candidate they are supporting.

 

Our endorsement process includes three steps:

 

1. The candidatecandiate completes and submits our candidate questionnaire. (Candidates must verify they have submitted a statement to be included in the official Voters’ Pamphlet prior to the deadline in order to be considered for endorsement by Indivisible Skagit.

2. The Support Team reviews the candidate questionnaire to confirm the candidate is aligned with our progressive values.

3. The request for endorsement is referred for an electronic vote of our members.

The process takes about a week, but can take longer on occasion.
