Rally protesting separating families at the border
Hundreds of people gathered at the Skagit County Courthouse in steady, drenching rain for an hour-long rally on Saturday, June 30 to protest the Trump administration's policy of separating children from their parents for the purpose of border control. The action was co-sponsored by the Skagit Valley College DREAMers Club and Indivisible Skagit. The Mt. Vernon police closed the block in front of the courthouse to traffic during the rally. Some people stayed beyond the rally in spite of the rain to hold signs and wave to passing traffic. The response from the heavy car and truck traffic was overwhelmingly positive, with thumbs up, lots of honks, and people waving. People walking by stopped to talk and say thank you for supporting keeping the children with their parents and not in detention.

The action drew the participation of congressional representatives Rick Larsen and Suzan DelBene, both of whom spoke, as well as members of the SCV DREAMers Club who organized the event.

Elsewhere in the state: There was a large rally in Anacortes. Reportedly 20,000 people turned out in the Seattle/Tacoma area, and there were many more rallies around the state.
