Northwest Detention Center Activities
Help support detainees held at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma the second Saturday and the fourth Sunday of every month.
Join with Indivisible Skagit's Immigrant Support Task Force and volunteer to drive families and friends of detainees from Skagit County who otherwise have no way to get to the detention center to visit detainees.
We not only drive family and friends to visit, but also provide food and drinks for visitors leaving the detention center who often have a very long ride back home, provide Spanish language books for the detainees, and hold signs of support as we stand outside the detention center.
The "Detainee Support Committee Meeting” will meet on Monday, August 20, from 6 to 8 pm, in the Skagit River Side Room at the Burlington Public Library, 820 E Washington Ave, Burlington, WA 98233. (For the calendar, you can call it the "Detainee Support Committee Meeting")
This is a meeting for people who want to be involved with the work we're doing at the NW Detention Center as a subgroup of the Immigrant's Rights Support Task Force. We'll discuss how it's been going so far and what kind of changes we want to make moving forward, especially regarding our lack of passengers. The agenda will also include time for people to discuss their experiences visiting the NWDC, information about visiting detainees ourselves and a pilgrimage to bring increased attention to the plight of the detainees being planned by Jose Ortiz of St. Charles Catholic Church.
